We are in the planning stages for a gardening seminar on IRRIGATION SYSTEM DESIGN to be presented by  a member of their staff in the next few weeks. Watch for further details as soon as we get them finalized.

Their larval cycle lasts 3 to 4 weeks, and most backyard orchards are very minimally affected by a typical infestation. Commercial orchards take them seriously, but their routine sprayings take care of them.

We were searching for a way to relate our appreciation for our Gardening Angels this week, especially after our photographer commented on how great our display areas looked when he came to shoot pictures. Richard had taken four days off this week... a scary thing for most business owners... and when he walked in, came to the realization that the people who chose Jericho Nursery as a place to make love... visible... were doing something above and beyond a great job. 

We recalled an interview with Greg Braden, long time New Mexico resident and world renowned speaker and author, in which he quoted Kahlil Gibran, "Work is love made visible." Greg considers this statement his "soul compass" and thinks of it in every situation.  He went on to say "It takes a lot of work to know who we are in this world and to demonstrate for ourselves our potential. ...loving ourselves in a way that empowers us to be in this world in a healthy way where we thrive in the presence of all of the changes."

Changes? 'It's a whole new Jericho every week', they say, not to mention what's going on around us in society. But there's nothing more grounding than gardening, and there's a special energy just being involved in facilitating that experience for thousands of people. Thanks, everyone.

We received a stunning shipment from Monrovia this week, including the perennials in the photo above. Visible love from talented hands, and we didn't even see them do the work.

We hear you. "You have the best selection in town." "Your product looks better than anybody else's." "Look at all this NEW stuff." We are continuing to bring in fresh stock and rotate older plants into the clearance areas, so be sure and take advantage of major savings and use your love to help them thrive. We are also hearing what you say when you ask for something we don't have, and lately we've been ordering new items of the 'hard goods' variety, like rose gloves, galvanized water cans, self waterers, etc. plus copper fungicide, the pesticide Eight in several concentrations, and sometimes things we are just curious about. For example, we struggled to come up with an image to represent that intriguing headline. So, just for the heck of it, we asked an AI program to give it a try. Did the robot artist nail it, or just create something that makes absolutely no sense on a website about gardening? You decide... but it got your attention, so mission accomplished.

The conversation started between two humans. Gardening expert Richard Hobson was explaining that we are in the most stressful time of year for gardeners as they identify problems with "THAT PLANT". You've heard it before but we'll say it again: It's most likely insufficient water, or something that normally wouldn't affect the plant if it weren't so stressed by the heat. We'll do our best to identify the issue and offer a solution, or at least narrow it down from 17 possible issues to the most likely two or three. But we really need you to bring in a sample of the plant or some photos in order to give the best advice.

But, to return to the postulation of this post, every solution has its own set of problems. Pests? Weeds? Fungi? Malnutrition?

Yes, we have insecticides, herbicides, fungicides, and fertilizer... but if you apply these when it's so darn hot you are very likely to damage the plant.

As another example, particularly this year, we took a very aggressive approach to keeping our houses and display yards full of fresh plants, even when many gardening centers are just consolidating what they have so their place LOOKS well stocked. We are pleased that this solution has worked well this season, but there's a problem. We're still bringing in multiple truckloads of bedding plants, trees, and shrubs every week and moving older stock into a clearance mode. All that these plants really need is some one-on-one attention in order to really thrive, and we tempt... challenge... humbly implore you to adopt some of the many plants that are now discounted by 50% or MORE. Come in and see our various clearance displays.

We have learned that our Gardening Seminars are an excellent solution to the Gardener Education problem, so we are planning some more presentations in the coming weeks. But of course, we will need to make room for the audience... there you go. Another example. Can you help us make room?
