For example, we struggled to come up with an image to represent that intriguing headline. So, just for the heck of it, we asked an AI program to give it a try. Did the robot artist nail it, or just create something that makes absolutely no sense on a website about gardening? You decide... but it got your attention, so mission accomplished.
The conversation started between two humans. Gardening expert Richard Hobson was explaining that we are in the most stressful time of year for gardeners as they identify problems with "THAT PLANT". You've heard it before but we'll say it again: It's most likely insufficient water, or something that normally wouldn't affect the plant if it weren't so stressed by the heat. We'll do our best to identify the issue and offer a solution, or at least narrow it down from 17 possible issues to the most likely two or three. But we really need you to bring in a sample of the plant or some photos in order to give the best advice.
But, to return to the postulation of this post, every solution has its own set of problems. Pests? Weeds? Fungi? Malnutrition?
Yes, we have insecticides, herbicides, fungicides, and fertilizer... but if you apply these when it's so darn hot you are very likely to damage the plant.
As another example, particularly this year, we took a very aggressive approach to keeping our houses and display yards full of fresh plants, even when many gardening centers are just consolidating what they have so their place LOOKS well stocked. We are pleased that this solution has worked well this season, but there's a problem. We're still bringing in multiple truckloads of bedding plants, trees, and shrubs every week and moving older stock into a clearance mode. All that these plants really need is some one-on-one attention in order to really thrive, and we tempt... challenge... humbly implore you to adopt some of the many plants that are now discounted by 50% or MORE.
