  • I’ve always wanted to come here…

We heard that TWICE this week, from people who have been driving by, without stopping, for YEARS, and finally stopped in and explored the place with great delight. We know our funky North Valley garden center is full of surprises but it's always nice to hear that we have pleasantly surprised someone new.

For those of you who read our blog on a regular basis, you'll remember a few weeks ago when we bid farewell to Janna Hobson as she had an opportunity to pursue her original career path. We are bursting with pride and hearty congratulations as she graduates TODAY from Southwest Airlines Flight Attendant School!

Meanwhile, back at the ranch... more trucks! Lots of color and veggies, but also trees and shrubs, including purple leaf plums (on sale), hibiscus, butterfly bush, crapemyrtle, lilacs, flowering quince, green spire euonymus, espalier euonymus, plus more soil conditioner. We've had time to consolidate and organize our roses and have about 200 beautiful Weeks plants left, plus we got red and pink Knockouts, staked climbers (Blaze, Joseph's Coat, and Don Juan), a few umbrella catalpas and more.

As you WATER, WATER, WATER, keep in mind that all that water is tending to flush fertilizer that you previously applied down below the roots. It's a good idea to pick up some of our water soluble fertilizers and add occasionally as you water, and it's OK to add root stimulator as the season progresses.

With the heat and the wind, don't be overly confident of your drip system. Make sure your emitters are all working and be prepared to adjust your timer or supplement with a hose to compensate for these dehydrating conditions. None of you has killed more plants than we have over the years, and the primary cause is No Hose Disease!

We have TWO Garden Tours coming up! Magnificent demonstrations of talent and hard work by local gardeners and PLENTY of inspiration for us all!

Both events have a cap on ticket sales, so don't delay.

The Albuquerque Parade of Gardens

SUNDAY, MAY 22, 2022

9:00 TO 4:00

The Corrales Garden Tour

SUNDAY, JUNE 5, 2022

9:00 TO 4:00

Once again, kudos to our Gardening Angels. They have exceeded all expectations through the recent period of long days and extreme demands on their endurance and patience. We are especially proud of how they have learned to turn a returned plant into a learning opportunity. When plants fail, there's usually a reason and they have gotten pretty adept and helping customers figure out what went wrong so that the replacement plant will thrive. It's USUALLY water, but planting depth, location, use of root stimulator and compost are also factors, so please don't be offended if we ask a few probing questions during the process. It's all about long term success!

See you again soon!

Richard, Jennifer, and Your Gardening Angels
