We had a really hard time getting peat moss last year, so we made SURE we stocked up on 4 cubic foot bales. Why should you care? Two big reasons....

1. NOTHING has the water holding capacity of peat moss. A dry bale weighs between 40 and 60 pounds. Once saturated with water, it weighs 250 pounds. However, peat moss is initially hydrophobic and you will find it frustrating to open that lightweight dry bale and spread it where you want it and then try to saturate it; It's likely to either float away or blow away. So what you do is place the bale as close as possible to the place you want to spread the product; make a hole in the bale and insert a hose and run water until the bag plumps then let it sit for at least 24 hours. THEN open the bale and spread it where you want it.

2. Peat Moss is the MOST ACIDIC organic material money can buy, and we live in an area with extremely alkaline soils.

Yes. California fan palm trees can survive in our local climate; we have seen them in place, much taller than these. We can special order larger and smaller ones, too.
