Jericho Nursery | Don’t get bored…

It's time to treat for peach tree borers! Don't have peach trees? Relax?

Peach tree borers attack all varieties of "Prunus", which includes peaches, cherries, apricots, nectarines, almonds, and even ornamental varieties such as flowering cherries and flowering almonds. For the past month, the female (which hatched in June) has been laying eggs, and if you haven't started treating for this destructive pest, start NOW. Captain Jack's DeadBug is our #1 recommendation, with active ingredient SPINOSAD, which is a natural substance made by a soil bacterium. It should be applied every two weeks from the beginning of August through the middle of October. It can be applied up to six times per season.

Spinosad must be ingested by the borers to kill them. By spraying the tree from the base of the trunk to the scaffold branches, you are putting it on their plate as they eat through the bark and the life sustaining cambium layer.

Another option, just so you know, is ANNUAL Tree & Shrub Insect Control, which is a systemic with the active ingredient IMIDACLOPRID.

It should have been applied in June or July, and we really discourage using it on fruit trees or flowering trees that are frequented by bees and butterflies.

Defend your PUMPKINS, squash, and other vegetables against our annual squash bug attack with this powerful pair. Diatomaceous earth creates lesions in the exoskeletons of these armored critters, making it easier for the garden dust to kill them.

In other news...

  • Our six-pack annuals are almost gone and there are no more on order, so get 'em while we've got 'em. We do have more perennials arriving today! We also got more agave, plus new decorative items including road runners, quail families, cattle skulls, and plate or plaque stands.
  • If you haven't fertilized your trees, shrubs, and lawn, it's 16-8-8 time!
  • The Hobson garden has an abundance of tomatoes, and we will have them near our checkout counter as often as possible.

Lake Valley seeds have arrived!

It's time to plant cool season vegetables as well as grass; you will find both of these items in the structure that shelters our cash house now, as we have done some rearranging.

And our nursery has a baby! Olive is learning all about plants... when she's not napping.

Enjoy your weekend, and make us a part of it!
